Cognata wins the EIT Urban Mobility’s RAPTOR Pedestrian Road Safety Challenge in Tel Aviv, Israel!

We are excited to announce that Cognata won the EIT Urban Mobility‘s RAPTOR Pedestrian Road Safety Pilot in Tel Aviv, Israel!
Rapid Applications for Transport, called RAPTOR, is a competition that swiftly creates and tests solutions to niche urban mobility
challenges. Participants compete to provide the most innovative, feasible, and impactful solutions. RAPTOR is funded by EIT Urban
Mobility, and is an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.
Cognata will create a Dynamic Digital twin of the Tel-Aviv area, examine different points of view (lines of sight) around the scene,
and map the possible safety hazards, helping to reduce risk factors and prevent accidents involving pedestrians.
At Raptor’s 1st edition, its geographical footprint focused on Belgium, Spain, and France. In its 2nd edition, Raptor expanded
throughout Europe and is now active in Israel, Slovakia, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Latvia, Estonia, and the Czech Republic.
Pedestrian Road Safety in Tel Aviv
In 2020 pedestrians constituted 16% of all road users in Tel Aviv. The city aims to increase the percentage to 20% by 2030.
According to the OECD, Israel has a higher casualty rate of pedestrians, than the OECD average. The city of Tel Aviv-Yafo is
leading a mobility strategy to “tip the pyramid”.
The strategy aims to prioritize pedestrians to increase walkability, promote shared mobility and the use of public transport,
and boost micro-mobility uptake. This holistic strategy has at its core the provision of feasible alternatives to car ownership.
One of the critical lines of action for the city follows the need to ensure pedestrians are safe from harm, and consequently
reduce the alarming number of pedestrian injuries and fatalities.
